The powerful would feel empowered to strike the vulnerable with the back of their hand, symbolising contempt. To turn the other cheek means to say - “if you are going to strike me, you must do so with your open hand and thereby lose your imagined superiority in relation to me”. This, it seems to me, is what Gisele has done.
